Municipal Firesafety Inspectors licensed by the State of
Florida conduct fire safety inspections on all existing
commercial buildings. The primary
purpose of these
inspections is to reduce and/or eliminate fire hazards that
could increase the probability and/or the severity of fires
within our community. Fire inspection is also conducted on all
commercial buildings that are under construction. These
inspections are conducted to insure compliance with all fire
and building codes prior to occupancy. State and local
ordinances mandate all inspections. Residential homes are
inspected upon request from the homeowners.
Approximately 2,000 inspections are conducted annually by the Winter Park Fire Department. Compliance is achieved through education, rather than enforcement. Those business/building owners unwilling to comply within a reasonable time frame can be fined up to $500 per day and/or referred to the City of Winter Park Code Enforcement Board for stricter action.
