FIRE CHIEF - Chief White was promoted to the position of Fire Chief on Monday, October 14, 2002. Prior to this most recent assignment Chief White served as the Deputy Chief in charge of all Emergency Operations. He coordinated the activities of both the Fire-Rescue and Life Safety Services Divisions.

Chief White moved to Winter Park in July 1992. Previously Chief White served fire departments in both Virginia and South Carolina. From 1978-1982, White served as a volunteer firefighter in Arlington, Virginia.

In January 1983, he began his professional career in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina where he rose through the ranks from firefighter to his final position as Captain of the Fire Training and Public Education Division. His work in public fire education brought him the "Outstanding Fire Service Professional" award from Clemson University in 1989. After moving to Florida in 1992, Chief White afforded his experience in the area of disaster management to enhance the department's response to natural disasters. In 1994, he was awarded the Author Kail Memorial Award as the "Outstanding Young Firefighter" from the State of Florida Junior Chamber of Commerce and is a 1998 graduate of "Leadership Winter Park" sponsored by the Winter Park Chamber of Commerce.

Chief White continues his professional and educational development through participation at the local and national level. He holds a degree in Fire Science Technology and is a graduate of the National Fire Academy's Executive Fire Officer Program.

Throughout the Community, Chief White serves as the president of the Board of Trustees of the Central Florida Fire Academy and is Co-Chair for Fire Rescue of the Regional Domestic Security Task Force serving Central Florida. Chief White is also the Region 1 (Orange County) representative for the Central Florida Fire Chief's Association.

Jim lives in Orlando with his wife Kristi and two daughters Morgan and Kristen.

Brian Dean began his career with the Winter Park Fire-Rescue Department in December 1982. He has been promoted through the ranks to included Firefighter, Engineer, Lieutenant and Battalion Chief. Brian was promoted to Assistant Chief of Operations in December 2002 and transferred to Assistant Chief of Administration in October 2006.

Chief Dean has been involved in a variety of special operations within the organization. One such operation was performing the duties of Accreditation Manager, leading to the agency being internationally accredited by the Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI) in 2001 and again, in 2006. Presently, Brian serves as a Peer Assessor and Team Leader for CFAI working with other agencies across the country in their quest for accredited status.

In his off time, Brian loves to spend time with his son and hopes to do future advocacy work promoting the adoption of older children who need forever families. Chief Dean currently holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Central Florida; graduated from the Executive Fire Officer Program at the National Fire Academy in 2004; and was credentialed as a Chief Fire Officer (CFO) by the Commission on Professional Credentialing in 2006.

BATTALION CHIEFS - Operations

The three fire department battalion chiefs respond to fire and emergency medical calls, maintain records and statistics pertaining to fire and rescue responses along with company fire inspections, training activities and the maintenance of facilities and equipment. The battalion chief assigns specific tasks for the lieutenants and crews on a regular basis.

At a fire scene, the battalion chief determines the method of fire attack, supervises the laying of hose lines and directs the fire streams to extinguish and contain fires. At most emergency scenes, the battalion chief assumes command and is the authority having jurisdiction and represents the fire department.

 

Jim Knackert began his career at the Winter Park Fire Department in October 1978. Jim was promoted to Engineer in 1981 and was promoted to Lieutenant in 1984.

Chief Knackert left the department for a brief time, but returned in the summer of 1985 as a firefighter. He was again promoted to lieutenant and in 1990 was promoted to battalion chief.

Chief Knackert is currently assigned to the department's C-shift. In his spare time, Chief Knackert enjoys traveling, water sports, working on his house and weight lifting.

Tim Notartomaso

Tim Notartomaso began his career as a Firefighter with the Winter Park Fire Department in September 1984. He was promoted to Engineer in 1990 and to Lieutenant in 1992. He was promoted to his current position of Battalion Chief in January 2003 and is assigned to A Shift. From 1983 to 1996 He served his rural community as a volunteer firefighter and officer.

Chief Notartomaso helped to organize the Departments Technical Rescue Team and also serves as part of the committee responsible for International Accreditation. Tim also oversees the specification of new fire apparatus and equipment for the department.

When off-duty Tim enjoys spending time with his family, playing guitar, sports, airbrushing and doing projects around his farm.
